Obviously, this sort of business arrangement is tailor-made for individuals who have little money to spare.

Whatever the case, MLM opportunities are an excellent source of income for those who do not exactly have the luxury of excess time or energy. If you are reasonably ambitious and believe that you can sell worthwhile products, there is no reason why you should not enter an MLM venture.

Like any business, a home business needs to be nurtured in order for it to be successful. You can’t just sit back and hope that it is going to take care of itself, and that the single action of having a website and submitting it to search engines to allow potential customers to find it is going to do the trick. No matter what you may have been told, there is no business that is going to make money for you without you having to do some work to make it happen.

That means if your best friend calls and wants you to go shopping, you have to make sure she understands that you still have a job, even though you are working at home. Does that mean you neglect family and friends? No, of course not. But you have to set aside certain hours to work on your business. Just as you would if you were going to work each day. That doesn’t mean that you have to work 8-5 each day. You do need to put in the amount of hours necessary in order to do the things that are required.

It’s also important to set aside a certain amount of time to do nothing but network and business promotion. You can do this by email, website promotion, passing out business cards in your local area, making up fliers to send out, or any number of other ways. The important thing is that you must have an organized method of networking if you want your business to be successful.

In summary, the key points are
(1) Treat your business as if you were going to work each day;
(2) Have an organized criteria for what you need to do daily; and
(3) Build your business with the knowledge that you will always have to be involved in order to maintain success.

The reason for this is simple. Why work hard to only get paid one time? I would rather get paid every month for my efforts, instead of just a one time payment. I don’t know of any “regular” job that can provide that type of residual income.

Now that you understand the importance of finding a residual income affiliate program, the next step is to actually find one. Makes perfect sense, right? This can tend to be somewhat challenging, however.

There are so many residual income affiliate programs available for someone looking to work at home that there’s just too many to really go through. There are plenty of options and choices which is great, but it can be almost overwhelming and quite confusing.

I’ve seen some really good programs out there, but I’ve also seen a lot of crap. I know that’s being blunt, but it’s true and something anyone thinking about working at home needs to be aware of. I recommend you do some research first before you commit to a certain company.

Remember, if you already made the decision to work at home, or are seriously considering it, you want a residual income affiliate program that will provide monthly income for you and your family.

Above all, try to conduct business with people of only the highest character, not simply those with the highest intelligence or greatest ambition. After all, without the first quality, the last two will kill you.

Residual Income That Just Keeps Coming In

Your residual income is the financial little extra that is leftover in your hand after your bills are paid each month. The financial obligations are paid off and any extra money is left as passive income. But don’t forget to plan for every bill, not just the ones for this month, but the quarterly payments also.

If you need $1500 in your budget for monthly expenses and you earn $1900 a month, that extra $400 is your residual income. You haven’t done anything other than go to work and put your best day to the job you do. The $400 left over from your earned income is now residual income.

Other forms of passive money result from interest-bearing checking accounts, dividends from stocks and even money received from rental properties. Passive income comes to you as the result of a prior purchase or savings plan. The work you did before retirement counts toward your payment of a pension. The pension check is now residual income.

If you have a mortgage on your home or the home you rent out, upon the complete payment of that mortgage, the funds you use to pay to the mortgage company is no longer needed there so it becomes residual income. It’s like there is now an empty space where money is no longer needed. You can stash that money away as residual or replace the mortgage payment with a boat payment. It’s up to you.

The amount of passive income you can show a bank when applying for a loan is paramount in the bank’s decision to lend you the money. It shows them that you have enough funds to assume the responsibility to repay the loan. With the loan money in hand, you assume a payment plan and may be paying less interest on the loan than you would have lost by dipping into a great stock that provides steady residual income.

Income is taxable. It is the way our country works, and every time you gather money as income, you give Uncle Sam his share. The interest earned, the income from rent and the royalties from the sale of a book are all taxable income. Some states have rules about the tax on pension checks. In some states, pension checks are taxable.

As with any earnings, you should make sure you keep accurate books. Sloppy bookkeeping can run you into trouble with the IRS. If you are still employed and have several rental properties, stocks, bonds and other work from home income ventures, you might need help from an accountant. You need to make sure that you save receipts for ease in doing your taxes.

Look beyond today when you choose the money makers of tomorrow. Set up and put in place some sources that will provide you with residual income in the years to come. This week, I’m going to provide you with some excellent online business tips that will help any business, and also I’ll tell you a story about an e-mail that I received this week.

Firstly, on New Year’s Eve I met a friend of a friend… We were allowed by our respective partners to talk business for an hour over dinner! In all seriousness, we’d spoken before, but this was the first time that we’d met in person so we had our excuses…

Anyway, he has a similar background to myself – he’s a normal person just like you and me… But, he decided one day that the office and a 9-5 job just wasn’t what he wanted to do for the rest of his working life. The result of this decision was that he refinanced his house and set-up his very own landscape gardening business in his local area.

He told me that one day it just hit him – out of the blue. He realised that he only had one shot at this life and he hated what he was doing at the time… and he wanted to make more money… And I could certainly relate to that!

His business has been going for over one year now, but he did confess that 2006 was going to be a make or break year for him in terms of purely finance… And as we talked more it became obvious to me that for the immediate future he needed to target very specific ‘contracts’ that would bring his business a residual income for the entire year or perhaps longer.

In the past, he’d been dropping a simple leaflet through doors, or letters to the bigger clients – and we talked about what the leaflets and letters contained. They were good in content, but I suggested that he needed to stand out from his competition by offering something in addition to the service that everyone was offering. i.e to maintain your garden for £x every month.

So, with my marketing hat firmly on and in place, I suggested that he offer something free – as an additional bonus for winning the contract. Something that would encourage the potential client to become a paying client…

I told him that he needed to focus on his customer – what do they want from a landscape gardener? What are they really looking for? It’s not primarily cost, but something to make you stand out from the competition.

He told me that potential clients were often unsure as to the quality of the job or whether gardeners could be trusted. Well, this was it… this was the ‘clincher’ that I was looking for…

He’s since added a few testimonial quotes to his sales letter and is now offering a ‘first month free’ service to all maintenance contracts signed in January. Of course, he’s adjusted the price to accommodate this free month, but the importance is winning the contract in the first place… And I understand from speaking to him this week that he’s already arranged two meetings with potential clients for next week.

You see, marketing and sales is all about knowing what your market wants. If you can offer them what they want at a reasonable price and make yourself stand out from the competition, then you’ll be successful. To target your market, you can then use leaflets, direct mail, internet marketing, e-mail marketing or even a telephone call.

My tip for this week is, therefore, to get inside the head of your customer and then ask yourself (as the customer) “what do I really want?” Once you master this, the rest will be simple.

Moving on…

I received an e-mail that upset me this week – it was from someone that isn’t a customer of mine questioning how to set-up an online business. I always try to help everyone that I come into contact with, so I responded to a series of questions from this person in an attempt to help them get started… The response to my final e-mail amazed me!

It read something along the lines of “it’s alright for you – you do this for a living”…

Well, what do you say to that?!

Believe it or not, I wasn’t born with my home-based online business in a box – ready to open and start making money whenever I felt like it. There was a time when I knew nothing about the internet, nothing about marketing techniques and even general business knowledge let alone an online business!

So to say something so defeatest just amazed me. To me, it’s like saying that becoming a self-made millionaire just isn’t possible…

Sure, people have done it, but that doesn’t mean that I can do it?!!

So much of where you are and what you do is in your mind, which is why I want to make the following statement regarding the rich and successful amongst us:

Everyone has the right to become wealthy and experience financial freedom. Those that do… believe that “it’s ok to make and have money…”

And if you think about this statement for just a moment and consider all the negativity associated with having or making money, then it becomes very clear as to what this means.

At a young age, we’re taught that “money is the root of all evil” and “money can’t buy you love/friends”. We also see our parents using credit and spending everything they have, so we copy them…

My parents retired BEFORE they’d paid off their mortgage, so not only did I have absolutely no advantages than the ‘normal’ person… I saw that working all your life was NOT the way to go.

If you take only this from this online business message, it should be that any business can be improved with the correct and most cost-effective marketing. And in order to succeed you need to start thinking like the rich – it’s ok to make money… and lots of money at that.

What You Can Do To Have Success With Affiliate Marketing

Internet marketing has blown up in the past few years with more and more people looking to work from home.  There are thousands of opportunities and ways to make money online, including affiliate marketing.  Affiliate marketing has been around for quite some time and continues to hold strong.  But have you had success with it?

Millions of people try affiliate marketing at some point in time, but many quit after a few weeks of no success.  Just as with any home business, you have to be patient and give it time.  But there are some things you can do to set yourself up for success.

The first tip to having success is finding a program that you are interested in.  The great thing about internet marketing is that there are so many opportunities available, giving you the chance to find something you enjoy.  Everything is much easier if you have passion in it because you will be more willing to put in the extra hours to promote the program.

Next, find a program that is correlated to your website in some way.  It is extremely difficult to have success with affiliate marketing if you affiliate links of gardening sites on your car website.  Take the time to find a program that is related to your site and will benefit you.  It will take a load off of your back if you can offer your visitors what they are looking for.

The fact that there is thousands of affiliate programs to choose from allows you to look for programs that pay well.  You want to find a program that is related to your website and pays at least a 35% to 40% residual income.  There are some programs that pay as high as 70%, but 40% residual income will allow you to make a decent amount of money.  There is no sense in placing a link on your site that pays nothing.

Lastly, make sure there is a way for you to view your statistics.  Statistics say everything when it comes to the kind of success you are having.  Every affiliate program should have some kind of page that allows you to look at your statistics while you are working for them 24 hours a day.  The internet never sleeps, so why should your affiliate program?

There is great potential for affiliate marketing if you take the time to find a legitimate program.  Accommodating an affiliate program with your home business is a great way to branch out and have income flowing in multiple directions.  If you follow the tips listed above, you can have success with affiliate marketing.
